Business Forums and associated project disruptions and stoppages are a very serious and complex issue with no clear solution from the authorities or private sector representative structures.
The situation is not KZN specific, as it is now occurring throughout the country. Furthermore, it is beyond a construction sector issue as it is now cutting across all aspects of the property sector from construction to post development property management.
In an effort to find a solution, the following actions have been initiated:
- KZN SAPOA Council has raised this urgent matter with the National SAPOA CEO with a request that it be escalated to National Government structures
- National SAPOA have been requested to provide a practical guide on how best to engage with neighbouring communities prior to construction and business forums to mitigate disruptions and stoppages
- To ensure Business Forum disruptions / project stoppages are being reported and mapped to allow for the extent of the problem to be established – it is essential that they are immediately logged by the contractor /developer / property owner / manager on the provincial website established by the KZN Premier.
