It’s fun, it’s family friendly and it’s right on our doorstep! As we edge closer to the festive season, a guided walk through the Sibaya Coastal Forest Reserve is a great way to get the family outdoors.
Located just north of the Hawaan forest and uMhlanga lagoon and one of the last bio-systems of its kind, the 300-hectare Sibaya Coastal Forest Reserve also features beaches and a wide variety of bird and wildlife.
Led by Sibaya Coastal Forest Supervisor, Mazwi Ngubane, the meeting place ahead of the walk is at the French Zulu Café in the Sibaya Precinct and meanders for approximately half a km through the picturesque forest onto eMdloti Beach and back.
Mazwi’s extensive knowledge of the local fauna and flora guarantees an entertaining and informative experience for all.
What you can expect to see:
- Buck species including blue and red duiker
- Abundant birdlife including European roller, crested Guinea fowl, honey buzzard and grey waxbill
- Indigenous trees including the iconic Milkwoods
- Space to run and fresh air to breathe

When can one do a guided Sibaya Coastal Forest Reserve walk?
A walk can be scheduled for any weekend and starts at 7 am provided a booking is made in advance.
How do I book a guided walk?

How much does the guided forest walk cost per person?
The cost is R50 per person. Children supervised by their parents are welcome and kids under the age of 12 do the walk for R25.
How can I make payment for the walk?
All payments must be made in cash to Mazwi before the walk commences.
Can Sibaya Coastal Forest guided walks be done in groups and how many people are allowed on a guided walk?
Please note that guided walks are limited to a maximum of 15 people and a minimum of 6 people.
How long is the guided walk?
Approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.
What should I bring on the walk?
Comfortable walking shoes are required, and you can also bring some water and a cap along.
Important to know before the walk
Please keep cell phones on silent. Note that smoking and vaping in the forest are strictly prohibited. Dogs are not allowed on the walk and picking flowers from the forest is also prohibited. Parking is free.
