CIBE’s load shedding block explained

Our team has been liaising with officials from eThekwini Municipality to understand the reason for the Cornubia Industrial and Business Estate (CIBE) not being -allocated to industrial blocks (blocks 17-20) on the new eThekwini load shedding schedule and on the current block 8B.

The response from the municipality explained that CIBE is connected to a supply that predominantly feeds the surrounding residential and commercial components. The precinct’s electricity supply cannot be rerouted to an industrial feed power supply as electrical networks are designed around ensuring optimum quality of supply to customers and not around load shedding. eThekwini Municipality aims to keep the electrical network as normal as possible to prevent unplanned outages, hence customers must remain on the normal supply as far as possible.

We were advised that it would be best to wait for greater Cornubia to develop, which may then change the area to be deemed industrial.
