As March draws to a close, service delivery in the Cornubia Industrial and Business Estate (CIBE) has seen moderate progress. Following the recent storms across the eThekwini region, many municipal departments redirected resources to harder-hit areas. While this has resulted in some delays in attending to outstanding faults in the precinct, several important interventions have still moved forward.
Support Following the Storms
eThekwini contractors were on hand earlier this month to assist with storm-related clean-up in the precinct. Their support helped clear debris and restore key areas quicklyβensuring a return to normal operations with minimal disruption to businesses within CIBE.
Power Connection to Surveillance Infrastructure
A key milestone in March was the connection of power to the newly installed PTZ camera on JG Champion Drive. This work, completed by municipal contractors, marks a significant step forward in expanding CCTV coverage at critical precinct entry points, enhancing overall surveillance and security.
Sewer Unblocking and Infrastructure Survey
Municipal teams also responded to a blocked sewer on Tottum Road, which was quickly resolved to prevent any health or environmental issues. Additionally, the ongoing survey of precinct infrastructure by eThekwini continues, helping to identify vulnerabilities and inform future maintenance priorities.
Streetlight Repairs: A Work in Progress
Streetlight functionality continues to improve, albeit gradually. As of the end of March, 70% of precinct streetlights are operational. Repairs remain focused on key roads including Syringa, Belladonna, and Tottum. We continue to engage regularly with the eThekwini Electrical Department to push for further progress in restoring full lighting functionality.
Ongoing Commitment to Service Delivery
While resource constraints following the storms have slowed certain repairs, our commitment to ensuring consistent service delivery remains unchanged. We continue to report faults, follow up with municipal departments, and advocate on behalf of CIBE stakeholders to ensure the precinct receives the attention it requires.
Weβll continue to share updates as work progresses across the precinct in the months ahead.
