April brought continued heavy rainfall across KwaZulu-Natal, resulting in a particularly wet month for the Cornubia Industrial and Business Estate (CIBE). Despite the challenging conditions, key areas of service delivery and safety in the precinct have remained stable, with encouraging signs of resilience across both infrastructure and security.
Precinct Safety: No Crime-Related Incidents
Weβre pleased to report that no crime-related incidents occurred within the precinct during April. Security teams remained vigilant throughout the month, particularly during periods of localised flooding and adverse weather. Their continued presence and commitment to proactive monitoring have helped ensure that the precinct remains a safe environment for all.
Streetlight Repairs: 76% Functionality Maintained
Despite the weather impacting some repair schedules, streetlight maintenance has continued. As of the end of April, 76% of precinct streetlights are operational. A total of 22 streetlight fittings were removed and sent for off-site repair this month. While the pace has slowed due to weather constraints, we are actively engaging with the relevant eThekwini departments to ensure restoration continues in the coming weeks.
Stormwater Infrastructure: Positive Early Findings
Inspections of the precinctβs stormwater infrastructure, led by the eThekwini-appointed contractor BMK Group, remain underway. Encouraging early feedback indicates that the precinctβs stormwater systems are in a good state of repair, especially notable given the volume of rainfall experienced in recent weeks. These inspections will help identify areas for preventative maintenance and ensure long-term system functionality.
CIBE continues to demonstrate resilience, even under pressure from adverse weather conditions. We extend our thanks to our teams and partners at eThekwini Municipality for their ongoing work in maintaining safety and service delivery across the precinct.
