As part of CIBEMAβs commitment to maintaining a safe, efficient, and well-managed precinct, members may have noticed tree removal activities along Tottum Road. We understand that changes to the landscape can raise questions, and we would like to provide clarity on the reasons behind this initiative.
Why Tree Removal Is Necessary
This programme forms part of a broader strategy focused on safety, infrastructure protection, and long-term sustainability.
- Improved CCTV Visibility
Several trees have grown in positions that obstruct critical sightlines for our CCTV cameras. These obstructions create blind spots, reducing the effectiveness of our security monitoring systems. - Overcrowding and Growth Constraints
Some trees were originally planted too close together, limiting their ability to grow properly as they mature. Overcrowding can lead to unhealthy growth and increased maintenance challenges over time. - Impact on Heavy Vehicle Movement
As a logistics and industrial precinct, CIBE experiences frequent heavy vehicle traffic. Certain tree canopies have grown too large and interfere with the safe movement of trucks and other large vehicles. While trimming has been attempted, there are practical limits to how much trees can be reduced without compromising their health. - Risk to Underground Infrastructure
In some cases, tree root systems have begun to affect underground services and infrastructure. These root structures can cause damage and make future maintenance or repairs significantly more difficult and costly.
Our Commitment to Landscaping
We recognise the importance of maintaining an attractive and environmentally responsible precinct. As such, this is not simply a removal exercise. Affected areas will be replanted where possible with appropriately selected, smaller tree species.
This ensures that CIBE retains its green, well-maintained character while supporting operational efficiency and safety.
